Bradley shines in gritty road win @ OKC, 129-122.
Avery Bradley scored a stunning 41 points. |
"I just want to win," Bradley told the press after the game. "I struggled in the first game back at home against these guys. Tonight, we had B.I. struggling and whatnot, so I just put my head down and left my heart out there on the court."
Bradley will be a free agent at season's end, having been acquired in a trade with the Clippers two summers ago, now with one championship ring on his résumé to show for it. Brandon Ingram is that new Spur on the block this season, and despite his talent on defense, and with Iman Shumpert and Dejounte Murray being no slouches either on that end of the floor, game after game, Bradley finds himself with the other team's best player in his line of sight as Coach Popovich surveys from the sideline. The quality upgrade this season in his play will most definitely add to his contract value, currently at 14 million. "I ain't sweating that side of the business. Right now, I'm happy where I'm at and it feels great to have the support of my coach and teammates."
To his credit, Russell Westbrook (13/24) outshone Paul George (21 points) tonight, unlike the meeting back in Texas, with the fiery point guard commanding 30 points with 7 assists, despite the losing effort that came down to the wire yet again. Terrance Ferguson had 13 points, and Steven Adams had 8 points with 10 rebounds. Dennis Schroder chipped in 10, also.
Iman Shumpert had another solid outing with 19 points and 2 steals, making a stellar 5/8 from long range. Brandon Ingram had an effective performance of 17 points with 4 blocks on 7/11. Patty Mills knocked in 16 points, making four 3PTers. Dejounte Murray laid in 8 points with 8 assists. This time, the Spurs came out swinging with a 37-28 first quarter showing. OKC never quite caught up: 33-32, OKC in the 2nd, 32-28 SA in the third & 33-28 OKC in the fourth. The Spurs surprisingly bested the big men of OKC on the glass, 31-24, both teams distributing the ball nicely to combine for 42 assists. The Spurs were the team coughing the ball up a staggering 20 times, the highest mark of this season and maybe multiple seasons going back, despite swatting away 12 blocks as a unit. Both teams shot above 60% in a splendid display of basketball, but the Spurs commanded the perimeter on 16/30 from deep territory. OKC went 15-27 from the free throw line, seemingly an Achilles heel for this team, spoiling the raw and otherwordly athletic dunks exhibited by Westbrook in this game.
The Spurs move to 35-9 on the season, as OKC now falls to .500 (21-21).
